Loka-marrakuun satoa 2 - What has happened since last update? -part 2

Isänpäiväviikonloppua vietin Huanchacossa, joka sijaitsee kuuden tunnin bussimatkan päässä Cajamarcasta, Tyynen valtameren rannalla.

On Fathers day weekend I went to Huanchaco, which is small city six hours by bus from Cajamarca. And coast of Pacific ocean.

Ihan pelkästä huvireissusta ei ollut kyse, kävin perjantaina 9.11. tutustumassa Colegio Alternativo Talentos:iin Trujillossa. - My trip to the coast was not only holiday, on Friday 9.11. I visited school "Colegio Alternativo Talentos" in Tujillo.

Kyse on yksityiskoulusta, jonka oppilaat maksavat n. 80-100 euroa kuukaudessa opetuksesta, materiaalit ja koulupuvut siihen päälle. - The school is private, and the students pay about 80-100 euros in moth for the education. Plus material expences and they buy also their uniforms.

Vänkä aakkospeli päiväkodin oppilaille. Koulu käsittää luokat päiväkodista aina colegion viidenteen, jolloin oppilaat ovat 18-vuotiaita. - Funny game to learn alphabet. School includes classes from kindergarden to the fifth class of secondary school, when students are 18 years old.

Ruokailutila, jossa oppilaat syövät omia eväitään tai koulun kioskin antimia. - Eating salon, where students eat their own food or something they bought in the school kiosk.

Aikamoinen Disneyland kyseessä, enpäs ole Suomessa tällaisiin kouluihin tutustunut. - What a Disneyland. I haven´t seen this kind of luxus schools in Finland.

Suomen koulutusjärjestelmän ja Pisa-tulosten esittelyä koulun henkilökunnalle. - Presentating Finnish education system and Pisa test result to the staff.

Talentos-koulun teatteriteltta! - The theatre tent of Talentos school!
Kollegani, draamaopettaja Antonio Solís Torres. - My collega, theatre teacher Antonio Solís Torres.

Tuli Harry Potterit muutaman kerran mieleen. - I couldn´t resist thinking of Harry Potter few times.

Sitten koitti viikonlopun riemut, muun muassa surffitunti numero 2. -  Then it was time for vacation activities, like surfing lesson number 2.

Huanchacon huvilaituri. - The main pier of Huanchaco.
Pelikaaneja - Pelicans

Hieman mainosta: Huanchacosta löytyy suomalaisomistuksessa oleva surf hostel Meri, matkaa rannalle tuolta ovelta n. 50 metriä. Suosittelen! - Little bit advertising: There is a Finnish owned surf hostel called Meri in Huanchaco. From that door you have to walk 50 meters to the beach. I recommend!

Näissä tunnelmissa oli mukava jatkaa taas arkipuuhia Cajamarcassa. Lämpötilaerot kun ovat jopa parinkymmenen asteen luokkaa. Mutta: hasta la proxima - seuraavaan kertaan!

With the energy of beach and sunshine I returned to Cajamarca with a smile. The difference of temperature can be more than 20 degrees.. But: hasta la proxima - until the next time!

Loka-marraskuun satoa - What has happened since last update?

Well, I have had my big bithday party and now there is time as well to write here. A lot has happened since last update, so I will tell little about everything with fotos.

Lauantaina 3.11. lähdimme kaveriporukalla viettämään pyhäinpäivää San Pablon kylään. Kylä sijaitsee noin 1,5 tunnin ajomatkan päässä Cajamarcasta. Ja taksilla mentiin, taisi maksaa noin 6 euroa suunta per henkilö.

On Saturday 3 November we left with some friends to San Pablo village. This village is about 1,5 hours away from Cajamarca. And taxi drive it was, costed about 6 euros one way for one person.

Ensimmäinen kunnon katsaus laamaeläimiin. -  First good look to laama animals.

Kultakuume tai oikeammin influenssa - Gold fever, or rather influenca

Kun tänään katselin YLE Areenasta uutisia, siellä kerrottiin Burkina Fason kultakuumeesta. Tuhannet ihmiset etsivät kultaa kirjaimellisesti kaivamalla maata.

When I was watching YLE News from Areena (areena.yle.fi) today, there was a story about the "Gold rush" of Burkina Faso. Thousands of people seach gold there literally with their shovels digging the ground. Here there is gold as well, but there is not any sign of "Gold rush". Gold is not possible to dig with shovel, it is hidden inside the mountains. And as well in Africa, the process of getting gold and other elements separated, needs tons of water and energy. As well the process contaminates the enviroment.

Kaivosyhtiö Yanacocha (ketsuan (engl. quechua) kielellä "musta järvi"), jonka omistaa neljä kansainvälistä sijoittajaa ja kaivosyhtiötä Perusta, Yhdysvalloista ja Ranskasta (http://www.infomine.com/minesite/minesite.asp?site=yanacocha); haluaa laajentaa toimintaansa Cajamarcan alueella. He havittelevat täältä muutamaakin aluetta, joista tähän mennessä surullisenkuuluisa on Conga-järven projekti.

The mining company Yanacocha (meaning ´black lake´ in quechua) that is owned by four international mining or investing companies from Peru, United States and France (http://www.infomine.com/minesite/minesite.asp?site=yanacocha), wants to expand their operation in Cajamarca region. They are after few regions here and the most sadly famous project is the project of the lake Conga.

Yksi ensimmäinen Cajamarcasta ottamani kuvista: No a Conga! (´"Ei Conga-projektille!") - One of the first pictures that I took when arrived in Cajamarca: No a Conga! ( "No to project Conga!")

Myös Chamisin yläkoulun seinästä löytyy viesti: Gonga no va! ("Gonga-projekti ei tule onnistumaan!") - As well in the wall of the secondary school of Chamis, there is a message: Conga no va! (" No way the Conga project will succeed!")

Here the culture of manifestation and participating into social or political issues is very different than in Finland. I could say that it is the opposit. I have participated into manifestations againts the war in Iraq, watched in news how police circulated the manifestators in front of Kiasma building few years ago, walked in Pride parades, etc. But I have not seen in my home country this kind of will to influence, to participate, to make things different that I saw in the stike manifestations of teachers. The gold mine project is really a question of life in here: the mine would take the land (cheap) and water. Without water there is no life.

I have gathered here some links to material, that you may see little bit closer (than the Finnish news) how the situation was here in the Cajamarca and region before the government declared emergency state in June. Before that there was three persons that died in manifestations.

1. Italialaisten vapaaehtoisten: Chiara Contatore, Jennifer Calippo, Giovanna Spampinato, Marina De Angeli; tekemä dokumentti Cajamarcan tilanteesta.

This is a documentary about the situation here in Cajamarca, made by four Italian volunteers: Chiara Contatore, Jennifer Calippo, Giovanna Spampinato, Marina De Angeli.Video is in spanish and has italian subtitles, but the pictures tell a clear story: http://vimeo.com/45414576

3. Mielenosoittajien puhemiehenä toimiva Marco Arana protestoi poikkeustilan julistamisen jälkeen yksinään keskellä puistoa ( =istui paikallaan Conga-projektin vastainen juliste käsissään) kun poliisit tulivat paikalle: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp6qVHENolg&feature=related

P.S. Videon lopussa lippispäinen nainen kysyy poliisimieheltä, miksi he tekevät tämän heille: "Koska olette koiria", hän vastaa.

The speach man of the manifestatores, Marco Arana, was protestating (=sitting still and holding a poster againts the Conga project) alone in the park when the police arrived: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wp6qVHENolg&feature=related

P.S. In the end of the video the woman with cap is asking from a policeman, why they are doing this to people. "Because you are dogs", policeman answers.

Koulun arkitoimia - Everyday habits of school day

Työpäivä koulussa alkaa kokoontumisella. Kunhan opettajat pääsevät koululle minibusseilla, eri puolilta vuorilta rientävät oppilaat huudetaan kokoon. Oppilaat järjestetyvät luokittain jonoihin armeijatyyliin, he ottavat käsivarsimitan edellä olevaan sekä viereisiin jonoihin.

School day starts with gettogether. When teachers arrive to the school by minibus, the students run from the mountains and they are called to lines. Students organize themselves to lines by class little bit like in army: they measure the distance to previous student and neighbourg line with their arm. After this the leading teacher calls in many schools "position, rest, attention!" Students act according to the order and they take finally the position with arm beside the body and feet together. Follows prayer and most of the schools the students sing the national anthem of Peru daily.

Cushungan yläkoulu, n. 3100 metrin korkeudessa - The secondary school  of Cuschunga, altitude about 3100 metres

Cuschungan koulun liikuntakenttä - The physical education field of the Cuschunga secondary school

Kouluissa ei yleensä ole sähköjä (ainakaan kaikissa luokissa) tai juoksevaa vettä - Normally the schools don´t have electricity not running water

Nokipannutunnelmaa Cuschungan yläkoulun opettajanhuoneesta - The camping atmosphere of the teacher room in Cuschunga secondary school

Oppilaat  kulkevat kouluille usein jalan,  jopa tunnin yhteen suuntaan. Tässä olemme kollegan kanssa matkalla minibussin pysäkiltä Chamisin alakoululle, matkaan laakson läpi vuoren laelle kestää noin 20 minuuttia. - Students go to the school normally by foot, even an hour one way. In this photo were are walking with a kollega from the minibus stop to the Chamis primary school. The walk crossing a valley and finally climbing to top of the mountain takes about 20 mins.

Reitti Chamisin alakoululle. - The route to the Chamis primary school.

Chamisin alakoulu vuorten keskellä. Alakoululaiset rientävät koululle vuorilta kaikista ilmansuunnista. - The Chamis primarry school in the middle of the mountains. Little primary school students arrive from all directions.

Chamisin alakoulun sisäpiha, johon oppilaat järjestäytyvät aamulla. - The inner yard of Chamis primary school, where students get together to the lines in the morning.

- Football has fans and players also three kilometres up from the sealevel.

In many ways the school life reminds the "old times" school life in Finland. Students act without rebellion accoding to the orders of teacher. Happy that I haven´t seen any physical punishment in schools. Here students don´t ski to the school like in Finland old days, but they climb amazingly well in the mountain hills and rocks. There are moments when I have difficulties to understand or accept the habits and school culture that is making the authority of teachers stronger. Luckily I can work llike I want in my own class.

Turistina kotikaupungissa - As a tourist in my new hometown

Kun on asunut kaupungissa kuukauden, on mielestäni sopiva aika tutustua paikan nähtävyyksiin.

When have been living a month in a city, I think that is proper to visit the local sights. And so I did, this saturday at noon I visited four important sights of Cajamarca: The ransom/captivity room of Atahualpa (El Cuarto del Rescrate), The cultural complez of Belen (El Complejo de Belén) as well the hospitals of women and men (el hospital de mujeres y hospital de hombres).

Tässä ensimmäinen oppaani ottamista pönötysturistikuvista, takana Cajamarcan ainoa säilynyt inka-aikainen talo El cuarto del Rescrate -  Here the first of many basic tourist photos that my guide wanted to take, behind me there is the only inca time building of Cajamarca: El cuarto del Rescrate.

- The mark is for the line where the hand of Atahualpa reached. Until there the room had to be filled first with gold and then twice with silver.

Inkojen rakennustaito on upeaa katsottavaa, heillä ei ollut käytössään laastia, vaan kivet hakattiin millintarkaksi palapeliksi. Myös oviaukot. - The builder skills of the incas are amazing, they didn´t use any plaster. The stones were cut precisely. Including the doorway.

Pepsodent-hymy ei oikein irronnut oppaan kehotuksesta huolimatta. - I really couldn´t do pepsodent smile there. Not as an European.

- The church of Belen is behind me, in the yard has been used as well for dance lessons and concerts.

Miesten sairaalan käytävä, kyseinen laitos oli aikoinaan ainoa koko Etelä-Amerikassa. - The hallway of the mens hospital. This hospital was once the only one in South America.

Makuusija, jossa peti oli tehty pingotetusta eläimen nahasta. Potilaan pää oli suunnattu kohti käytävän päässä olevaa alttaria, jotta potilas pystyi seuraamaan jumalanpalveluksia. - Place for the patient. The bed was made out of animal skin that was bended tight. Head of the patient was directed to the back wall of the hallway, where there is an altar. This way the patient could follow the religeous services.

Sinänsä lohduttava ajatus rakentajilta: ristinmuotoisen rakennuksen keskellä katossa on aukko, jota myöten menehtyneiden potilaiden sielu pääsi enkelten siivittämänä suoraan taivaaseen. - I like the idea that the builders have had here: in the center of the cross shaped hospital, there is a hole in the roof. Through there the soul of the passed away patients was able to rise to the sky, accompanied by four angels. Knowing what were the treatment possibilities in the 18th century, I believe this was very important for the hospital.

Sairaanhoitaja - Nurse

Näin tällaisen ikkuna-/tuuletus-/valaistusrakennelman myös Istanbulissa. Tämä sijaitsee miesten sairaalan keittiön katossa. - I saw a similar light /ventilation system in Istanbul. This photo is from the roof of the mens hospital.

Turisti Belenin kirkon ovien ulkopuolella. - A tourist outside of the curch doors of Belen.

Barokkityylinen sisäänkäynti naisten sairaalaan. - The baroque style entrance of the womens hospital.

Hedelmällinen yksityiskohta sisäänkäynnistä. - A fertile detail of the entrance.

Gaiua, paikalliset kangaspuut, joita käytetään seisaaltaan siten, että alinna oleva kangaspala on tekijän selän takana ja hän kiristää omalla painollaan lankoja. - Gaiua, the local way to produce fabric. It works like that, that the weaver has the piece of fabric (see the lowest part of the picture) behind her back and she tights the stings with her own body weight.

Tältä näyttää Gaiua-työ todellisuudessa. Huomaa oppaan heijastuminen lasista. - This is how the gaiua work looks like. Notice the reflection of the guide.

Viimeisimmässä kuvassa seisoskelen naisten sairaalan happihyppelypihalla. Tarina jatkuu seuraavalla kerralla, hasta la proxima!

In the last photo I´m standing in the inner yard of the womens hospital. The story continues next time, hasta la proxima!
