Nyt kun olimme päässeet viidakon helmaan, oli tietenkin halu päästä tutustumaan ympäröivään luontoon ja sen asukkaisiin. Meitä vaivasi hieman tuo tyypillistäkin tyypillisempi "eurooppalainen vatsa" eli laivaruoka oli tehnyt tehtävänsä. Siispä ensimmäisenä etappina oli Iquitoksen keskusta.

Now when we had arrived to the middle of rainforest, of course we wanted to explore around. Unluckily we were herassed by "european stomach", meaning that the food at the ship had done its job. So we took first look into the center of Iquitos.

Perulainen joulukoristelu ylsi valitettavasti myös viidakkoon.. - Unfortunately the decoration style reaches all the way to the jungle..

Iltapäivän ilona maracuya- (keltainen) ja camu camu (se toinen)- tuoremehut. Camu camu on viidakon vitamiinipommi, aika kitkerä ilman makeutusta kylläkin. - To the happines of afternoon we ordered some maracuya (yellow) and camu camu juice. Camu camu is a real vitamine bomb of jungle, quite bitter though without sugar.

Värit ja ilmastointilaitteet olivat arvossaan myös keskustassa. - The colours and air conditioning were in good value as well in the center.

Paikoittain Iquitos näyttää nopean kasvunsa kääntöpuolia, esim. tämä keskusaukiolla sijaitseva ja jo pitkään hylättynä oleva neuvostohirvitys. - In some places there can be seen the wounds of rapid growth of the city, as an example this soviet-style colosseum in the corner of central plaza. This colosseum has been abannoded for decades now.

28.12. päätin lähteä tutkimaan tarkemmin Iquitosta ja sen lähiseutuja. Sain mukaani oppaan hotellin suosituksesta, sillä ensimmäinen kohteeni Bélen on yksi Iquitoksen köyhimmistä kaupunginosista, jossa turistien ei ole järkevää liikkua itsekseen kamerat kaulassa. - 28. of  December I decided to have better look to other parts of Iquitos. My first visiting place was Bélen, one of the poorest parts if Iquitos. I was accompanied by a privat guide, because Bélen is not recommened to visit alone with cameras hanging around your neck.

Vastassa olikin karu näky jo ensimmäisissä kortteleissa. Presidentti Humala on luvannut rakentaa alueelle parempia taloja, jonka syystä useat talot on vedetty maan tasalle.  - I faced a rough sight already in first blocks. President Humala has promised to build new houses there, so some houses have already put down.

Oppaani avulla löydettiin vene 20 solen tuntihintaan näyttämään meille Bélenin kelluvaa kaupunginosaa. - With the help of my guide, we found a boat with 20 soles to take as see the floating part of Bélen.

Talot on rakennettu palkkien päälle, jotta ne eivät kastu kokonaan kun vedenpinta nousee sadekaudella. - Houses are build on "tree legs", that they don´t get totally wet when water lever rises in the rainy season.

Mielenkiintoinen yksityiskohta oli kelluva keittiö eli "ruokakioskivene", jossa kokki piti ruokansa lämpimänä pienien tulipesien avulla. Hän suuntasi veneensä aina asiakkaiden mukaan eri veneiden vierelle tai talojen edustalle. - Interesting detail was the floating kitchen, where the cook kept her food warm all the time with little fires under the pots. She directed her boat where her customers were: to the next to boats of front of the houses.

Kelluvasta kaupunginosasta löytyi tietenkin myös mekaanikonpaja.. - From the floating part of the city there could be found of course the mechanic...

... ja esimerkiksi yökerho. Huomaa terassin kova suojaustaso: suojaako se sisälläolijoita vai ulkona olevia.. - ... as well as for example a nightclub. I wonder if this protection of the terazza has been ment fot the customers inside or outside...

Ecuadorin ja Perun sodan (kuulemma) aikaisia aluksia.. toisaalta luulisi, että 40-luvun paatit olisivat jo pitkään olleet ruostehippusina Amazonissa. - I was told that these remains are from the peruvian-ecuadorian was from the 40s. But I would think that in 70 years metal parts would be rust in the bottom of Amazon river.

Kaimaaniakin valitettavasti löytyi tiskistä. Oppaissa neuvotaan, ettei turistit tilaisi kaimaaniannoksia, eläin kun ei ole runsaslukuinen eikä niitä pidä metsästää. - Unfortunately I found as well  caiman meat on the desks. In the tourist guides is told not to order caiman dishes. They are not many-numbered and as well there is no need to hunt them.

Paikallinen monni mätipusseineen. Osa kaloista oli vielä elossa korissa. - Local catfish with their eggs. Some fish were still alive and breathing.

Bélenin torilla myydään kaikenlaisia viidakon antimia. - In the market of Bélen are sold all different kinds of products of jungle.

Myös kilpikonnan munat kuuluvat myyntiarikkeleihin. - As well the eggs of turtles are included to the selling products.

Sitten tulimme oppaan kanssa lääkekasvien osastolle.. tuoksut olivat huumaavia. - Then we came with my guide to the part of medical plants.. the smells were spinning head.

Tätät punaista lihansyöjäkasvin näköistä kukkasta käytetään mm. värjäykseen. Todiste myöhemmin lopputuloksesta. - This plant (that looks like meat eater plant) is being used as well to paint. The proof picture of that later.

Bélenin markkinoiden jälkeen kävin viemässä hotellille ostokset ja suuntasimme oppaan kanssa joelle, jossa meitä odotti hänen pieni sininen veneensä. Kohteena oli nyt "mariposarium" eli perhoskasvattamo Pinpiltuwasi.

After the market of Bélen we stopped at the hotel and then continued to the river. There we hopped in to the little blue boat of my guide and took direction to the mariposarium aka butterfly farm Pilpintuwasi.

Meille kävijöille esiteltiin koko perhosen elämän kierto. Tästä alkaa perhosen elo, tummempi muna on hedelmöittynyt ja vaaleampi ei. - We visitors were introduced to the whole scale of butterfly life. This is the beginning. The darker egg will produce a catepillar, the lighter is without life.

Toukkien väritys vaihteli lajin mukaan laidasta laitaan, tehokkaat värit toimivat pelotteena: olen myrkyllinen. - The colours of catepillars are different with different species and the strong colours work as defence: I´m poisonous.

Kotelot, joita saimme pitää osaa kädessäkin. Ihmeellinen tuntu, kun perhonen potkii kotelossaan. Aina luulin, että ne horrostavat. - The capsules, that we could hold in our hands. It feels amazing, when the buttefly moves and kicks in the capsule. I always thought that they are sleeping while metamorphosis.

Pilpintuwasi on pääasiallisesti perhospuutarha, joka tutkii ja pyrkii säilyttämään monia harvinaisia perhoslajeja. Perhospuutarhalla toimii siellä koulutettuja työntekijöitä (perhostutkimusta tai -koulutusta ei Perussa kuulemma juuri löydy yliopistoista) sekä vapaaehtoisia, osa kansainvälisiä. Lisäksi perhospuutarhan yhteydessä toimii löytöeläintarha, jossa säilytetään useita joko orpona, loukkaantuneena tai ihmisiä uhanneita eläimiä. Esimerkiksi osa tarhan apinoista hyökkäili vapaana ollessaan ihmisten kimppuun ja ryösteli heidän tavaroitaan. Nämä veijarit tapettaisiin vapaana ollessaan. Pilpintuwasi is mainly a butterfly farm, that investigates and tries to remain many rare butterfly species. In the butterfly farm they have workers that are mainly educated there (our guide aka worker of the farm told me, that there is not so much or any education about butteflies in Peru universities) as well as volunteers, some internacional. As well in Pilpintuwasi there is a rescue center for injured, orphened or misbehaving animals. This last means, that for example some animals in the rescue center used to attack people and some monkeys for example stole things from people. They would be killed if they were free. Tämä taisi olla kapybara eli vesisika, maailman suurin jyrsijä. - If I remember correctly, this was a capybara aka "water pig", the biggest rodent en the world.

Seuraavaksi suuntasimme oppaani kanssa toiselle löytöeläinkodille, nimeltään Sueños del momon".

Next we continued our voyage with my guide to another animal rescue center, called "Sueños del momon".

Täällä pääsi kirjaimellisesti kosketuksiin eläinten kanssa. Asia on kaksijakoinen, toisaalta näitä ihmisiin jo tottuneempia eläimiä on ihana pitää sylissä, mutta esimerkiksi tämä laiskiaisparka rapsutteli itseään kymmenen minuuttia sen jäkeen kun laskimme sen taas paikoilleen. En tiennyt etukäteen, että laiskiaisten iho on kovin herkkä ja ne saavat ennakkoluuloista poiketen parasiitteja ihmisistä, eikä toisinpäin. En siis suosittele laiskiaisen pitelyä. - In this rescue center I literally got in touch with animals. This matter has two sides, on the other hand it is so lovely to hold them and these animals are more used to people. On the other hand, for example this poor sloth monkey has very sensitive skin. So against all preoccupation that she would give me some parasites, I actually gave her some. She scrached her skin ten minutes after we let her to return to the branch.

Hihii, apinanveijari oli karannut häkistään. - Hii, escape from the cage!

Viidakkojyrsijä, joka iloisena nuoleskeli hikeä oppaan jalasta. Tämä naaras pitää miespuolisten kävijöiden hiestä, opas kertoi.

 - A jungle rodent liked to lick the sweat of the guides leg. She prefers mens sweat, guide told me.

Merirosvot ohoi!! - Ohoi pirrrates!!

Heti löysi kapteenin. - Found the captain right away.

Likeisimmäksi jäänyt kosketukseni anakondaan. Eläin on täyttä lihasta, kylmä ja katse julma....hhrrr!! - The closest touch of me and anaconda. This animal is full of muscle, cold and the eyes of predator...hrrr!!

Pienempien kuristajakäärmeiden kanssa päästiin paremmin kavereiksi. Melkein kyllä kuristin tuon käärmeparan kun pitelin päätä niin lujasti. - We got better along with smaller strangle snakes. All though I almost strangled this poor snake, when I hold the head really tight with my fingers.

Kaimaanikin on peto syntymästään asti. - The caiman is a predator since the birth.

Iloisempi kuva kilpikonnasta, aluksi kuvasin väärää päätä ja ihmettelin, miten taidokkaasti eläin vetää päänsä piiloon. - Little bit happier foto of a turtle. In the beginning I filmed the wrong end and amazed that how well this animal hides the head.
